Frequently-Encountered Problems

Here are some answers to some frequently-encountered problems.

  1. I'm trying to complete the application I started before, but it's not there any more. What happened?

If you don't complete and submit your application within 27 days, your application is automatically deleted, and you must start a new application.

  2. Why am I being asked to change my User ID?

If you applied on-line before October 1, 2003 your account already exists in MySAO.

Changing your User ID from your Social Insurance Number (SIN) to a different User ID of your choice will provide additional security to protect your personal information.

REMEMBER both your User ID and password so you have no problem logging in to your account. If you do have problems, contact Student Aid for assistance.

  3. What if I forget my User ID?

  • Contact Student Aid.

  • Student Aid will delete your User ID for security reasons.
    • If you have already submitted your application, you won't lose the application information you entered.
    • If you started an application but didn't complete and submit it, you will lose the application information, and will need to re-apply.
  • After you confirm your identity and your previous User ID has been deleted, you will be allowed to create a new MySAO account.

  4. What if I forget my password?

  • Go to MySAO.
  • Choose Log-in.
  • From the 'Welcome to MySAO' page, click on Forgot Your Password?
  • Enter your User ID.
  • Provide the answer to the Challenge Question you provided to Manitoba Student Aid. You must correctly answer this question to access your MySAO account.

  • If you are having difficulty, contact Student Aid for assistance.

  5. I tried to log in to my account and received a message "This is an invalid combination. Please re-enter your User ID and Password." I still can't log in. What should I do?

Here are some of the reasons you may receive this message:

  • The password is case sensitive. Please be sure you turn your CAPS LOCK off.
  • The information you entered doesn't match our records. You entered a User ID and/or Password that doesn't match the one you originally entered. Please try again, entering the correct User ID and Password. If you are still having difficulty, contact Student Aid for assistance.

  6. I tried a number of times and I still can't access my account.

If you forgot your password and tried different passwords more than three times in a row, for security purposes, the system won't allow you to access your account for 24 hours. You can try again after 24 hours. However, if you still can't remember your password, you must contact Student Aid.

  7. I can't find my school and/or program under Academic Data. What should I do?

If you can't find your school, this means it might not be approved yet. You must submit a paper application along with your school's course calendar. Student Aid will ask your school to provide more information to help determine if it's eligible for approval for Canada Student Loan Program purposes. On your paper application, please provide an email address to the Registrar's office as well as your email address so that we can communicate with you and your school in a timely manner.

If you can't find your program, a program review may be required to determine if the program meets eligibility requirements for Manitoba Student Aid funding. You must submit a paper application along with a program outline to start this process. On your paper application, please prov

  8. I found my program on the list but it says "Not Eligible". What does that mean?

Schools or programs listed as "Not Eligible" do not meet the national and provincial criteria established for the Canada and Manitoba student loan programs. You cannot receive funding from Manitoba Student Aid for this school or program. Contact Manitoba Student Aid if you need clarification.
